Thank you for supporting our fight against hunger

The National FFA Organization's Rally to Fight HungerToo many people in our communities are struggling, day-to-day, to feed their families. The National FFA Organization is working to change that, and I’m happy to say American Family is helping.

Last week, I got the chance to attend the Rally to Fight Hunger at the FFA’s national convention in Indianapolis. During the three-day rally, more than 10,000 people packed a million meals that are being distributed around the United States and in Haiti. Watch this video overview of the rally.

Hunger is one of those issues where you don’t realize how many people it is affecting. It was really exciting to see these young people who are connected to food and farming recognize this is a big issue, and work to do something about it.

Fighting hunger has been a personal interest of mine for a long time. I’m on the board of Second Harvest Foodbank in Madison, Wis., and I’ve seen the struggles many parents have trying to feed their children. For American Family, supporting the FFA’s Rally to Fight Hunger reflects who we are as a company: we take care of the people in our communities who need us.

Dan SchultzIn addition to making a financial donation to the Rally to Fight Hunger, we partnered with the FFA to get the word out about their effort and the impact hunger has on families. We shared information on Facebook and Twitter, and people responded with overwhelming support and appreciation for our involvement.

It was encouraging for all of us at American Family to see this, and I want to thank all our customers and other community members who took time to let us know they appreciate this effort.

It really gives me faith in our communities to see how much people care about each other, and know how many people are working to fight hunger. You are making a difference.
